Construction
Progress!
Dedication
is scheduled for June 4 (Pentecost)
at the 10:30 am service.
May
12, 2006
The project is essentially complete. The "punch list" of items
to taken care (corrections, items missing, cleaning areas) is being
assembled and reviewed. The major items remaining are: driveway still
needs to installed on the south side of the building and the railings
still need to be installed on the new steps.
May
3, 2006
The interior is essentially complete and several items
outside are also being wrapped up for completion. It's not officially
complete, but awfully close!
April
27, 2006
There's not much left to go - more ceiling panels, some
final painting and the "punch list".
April
19, 2006
Carpet is being laid, ceiling tiles are being installed and the power
is on! Air conditioners are in place, but need to be tested and powered up
(just in time?)
April
14, 2006
Many of the finishing details are being installed, like
gutters, sinks. It's only been a couple of days since the last update, but
a much more "finished" look is being accomplished outside. A lot
of concrete was poured in the last 2 days.
April
12, 2006
Many details are starting to fall together for the final run to
completion. The site is even starting to be cleaned up and graded out. The
scaffolding is down. The roof is nearly totally complete. Doors between
the old and the new are ready for use.
April
9, 2006
The goal of the week is the first public use of the new addition! No, it's
not going to be finished yet, but it should be ready to allow us to unload
the bus at the new entry on the Southside of the building and allow
members and guests to come to Easter worship without using any steps.
Suspended ceilings progress, final colors of paint are appearing, doors
are in place, cabinets are mostly all installed.
April
5, 2006
Lots of new photos. There's so much going on around the site that with 20
photos, I still couldn't capture all of it. Name a trade and their working
right now - electricians, painters, concrete workers, floor covering
installers, cabinet installers, ceiling installers, roofers, HVAC (okay, I
guess that leaves out the plumbers, but they'll be back soon).
April
2, 2006
The primer coat of paint has been applied through the
construction area and additional roof work has been progressing. The
exterior trim is all painted now in the familiar red color.
March
29, 2006
The drywall finishing is nearly complete. Heating and electrical systems
are being installed and trim is painted outside. More flat roof is
installed and the first appearance of paint inside occurs!
March
26, 2006
The drywall finishing continues, though some other tasks
are also being advanced, such as some electrical work and painting.
March
22, 2006
Drywall finishing is well underway. The progress doesn't
necessarily appear to be great (they are thin coats of plaster, after all,
but other work is also continuing.
March
19, 2006
Drywall work continues. 3 rooms are totally complete and
ready for joint compound. The new flat roof installation is
complete.
March
15, 2006
Rock stars are in the building. The roof is installed enough
to keep the insides dry and brickwork continues.

March 12, 2006
The rain has slowed progress to a crawl. The roof needs
to be installed on the flat roof before interior work can continue. Still,
a bit of progress has been made.
March
8, 2006
The brick continues to rise and the shingling is
complete.
March
5, 2006
The brick is being laid! A substantial amount has been
set.
The windows have glass in them and the Narthex doors are installed.
February
26, 2006
Roof shingles are being installed. The window and door
frames are in and the brick is now on-site. Lots of
photos in this update, including some photos from the roof. We skipped the
mid-week update due to the reduction of rapid changes to the
building.

February
19, 2006
Roof decking proceeds, as does the electrical and heating installation.
One mystery is solved, leading to another. Ok, really the contractors know
and the church's construction team knows, but your webmaster needs to
consult the construction plans.
February
15, 2006
Roof decking is being installed and the original brick walls are being
prepared for filling the space to the new roof line. Inside the electrical
and heating work continues.
February
12, 2006
The roof is built. With only about 5-6 rafters left to be installed, you
can really see the total shape of the building. The mechanical
installation
is progressing, with electrical lines pulled, plumbing lines installed and
heating ducts being placed.

February 8,
2006
The mechanical tradesmen have arrived! Electrical and Heating contractors
have begun
their work. This allowed the exterior sheathing installation to be
completed to give
definite shape to the addition, including window and door openings. The
roof rafters are being installed
and should be completed by the end of the week with good weather.

February
5, 2006
The West gable end is constructed and the first roof
rafter was installed.
Construction of the interior walls is complete and the renovation area is
being
prepared for new wall finishes.

February
1, 2006
Attic walls have been built, showing the rough height of
the addition, while openings have cut into the old exterior walls,
beginning to provide views of the traffic flow from the existing building
to the addition.

January
29, 2006
Exterior sheathing continues, while the exterior walls
are extended higher to the eventual roofline. The plumbing continues in
the renovation area, as does welding for additional roof strength.

January
25, 2006
The exterior walls are all constructed and sheathing is
being applied. The ramp is poured and plumbing work begins inside.

January
22, 2006
Most all of the walls in the new construction, except
for the narthex have been built. Forms have been set for the new ramp.

January
18, 2006
Despite the cold and snow, the south exterior wall is being built and
preparation for utility services proceeds.

January
15, 2006
Wet weather has hampered work this week since the concrete
pour. The core drilling was done for the plumbing in the ladies restroom
being built in the existing area, but how exciting are photos of holes?
Hopefully the wet weather will allow some more work done outside shortly.
January
10, 2006
The concrete slab was poured on January 9 and is now
ready for work. The interior walls' locations were being marked on the
slab and interior renovation of the existing Sunday School wing continues
to fly.

January
5, 2006
The profile of the building is starting to emerge! Steel framework has
begun to be erected, showing the peak and slope of the new roof over the Sunday
School wing and the beginning of the framing for the new Narthex.

January
1, 2006
Demolition Work has begun in the Sunday School Wing,
The new construction is about ready for the concrete floor
(scheduled for January 6)

December
18, 2005
The foundation is complete and the pea fill is in.
It is ready for the plumbing work.
