March 5, 2006
A substantial amount of
brickwork is completed, including the whole south wall of the addition.
The rough plumbing is nearly complete and the heating/cooling ductwork is
partially installed in the addition. Roofing continues, including the
masonry work of the rehabilitation of the existing flat roofs. Insulated
glass panels have been installed in the new windows and the arch-top doors
have been installed in the entry to the Narthex. You haven't seen any
updates recently to the area being renovated because it has reached a
point that not much can be done in that area until the ductwork is
complete. The next item in there is the drywall work and drywallers won't
appear until all areas are ready for installation.

The limestone sign is in place at the front of the addition, facing the
street

The south wall is complete for the addition. The colors will blend
together much better
once the bricks are acid-washed to removed the mortar and cement dust from
the surface of them. The area above the old roof still needs to be
completed.

The brick on the Narthex exterior is a bit over 1/2 complete.
The archway over the doors are being placed.

You can see in this detail how well the bricks will blend after their acid
wash.
The gap is between the existing building and the addition and will be
caulked to serve as an expansion joint.

On the alley side, the limestone coping has been removed to be
rehabilitated and prepare for replacement of the roofing material on the
flat section. Expansion joints have also been cut into the brick wall.

The little details - a new drain outlet for the roof has appeared in the
alley.

The front doors have been installed in the new narthex.
Steps will lead from the sidewalk at the street to these doors.
These doors used to be installed by the old pastor's study - you can still
see the orange "NO EXIT" sign still attached to it that was
placed when the soil work began.
The interior door frames have arrived for the doorways to classrooms and
restrooms, as shown below:

The insulation glass panels have been installed into the windows.
Since glass is clear, I have circled two items show proof of the presence
of glass -
a reflection of the flash and permits taped to the glass.
The constructions workers must be quite happy to be rid of the cold winds.

Heating vents are being installed in the addition now and the rough
plumbing is nearly complete.
The main supply lines can be seen hanging from the ceiling. It may not
look like it, but don't worry,
there's plenty of space above them for the heating ducts to connect to
this main trunk. Notice there is also sheetrock installed on the ceiling.

The windows that used to face the street in the Sunday School wing have
covered with drywall.

The vestibule at the "winding stairs" entry has been cleared out
of it's plaster and is ready to begin
transformation into a short hallway from the addition. The plastic in the
center of the photo will be a doorway
from the new narthex to the sanctuary. On the right you can see the flat
roof over the vestibule that has leaked for a long time. The stone coping
has been rehabilitated and the roof will receive a new covering.

The new steps to the annex house are complete and reserved from use for
final curing. They will available for use this next Sunday for classes and
the youth gathering. I know the pastors and Dana will be happy not to have
to trek around the house into the construction zone every day!
