April 5, 2006

Lots of photos because all kinds of different things are being worked on all over the site. Roof work continues to prepare for installation of heating and air units, suspended ceiling work has begun, door hanging, painting, cabinet installation, even some floor coverings are being installed in the bathrooms. Concrete work is being done outside and the brick masons have returned.

Cabinets for the Sunday School rooms have arrived and installation is under way.

The choir room has a door! I don't think it's a statement about their quality,
but perhaps their volume to know that their door was the first installed of all of the rooms.

The dark lines in the photo are the wires that will support the suspended ceiling.

The photo above shows the view going from the new narthex into the vestibule to the sanctuary at the top of the winding staircase. Below is the view from the opposite direction and you can see that the short wall section on the right is drywalled now, as well as the ceiling.

The linoleum in the ladies room is being installed.

The door behind the stage in the basement is being replaced with a new frame and door with a specified fire rating. It will remain the emergency exit from the basement.

The main electrical supply is being installed behind the stage. Earlier photos showed the system box installed, but now the conduit is being completed and electrical wiring will immediately follow. The supply will also run to the existing electrical service to provide a single primary electrical feed for the whole building. The only disappointing part is that the conduit to the existing service could not be run in a concealed manner. The 1950s addition is so stout that they couldn't run the conduit through the concrete supports, so it will run along the ceiling in Fellowship Hall to the elevator area. It couldn't easily be run outside the building because of the concrete slab behind the building and the elevator shaft.

Electricians are installing the service panel shutoff required by the utility on the outside of the building.

Workers are getting two supports ready and the roof water tight to hold an air conditioner. The units in the attic area have been connected to the ductwork and are ready to be used as soon as the utilities are available.

One of the 2 exterior doors on the south side of the building is installed

The limestone window sills have arrived and are being installed. Here's two on the South side.

The bricks are climbing higher again, starting with a complicated area in the west wall. The limestone cross is complete and the arched section is being built. You can see the arched wooden template on the scaffolding that's used to make sure the shape is correct.

A wooden template stands above the new entry to the narthex where a brick facade will be built.

Concrete workers are digging and installing forms for concrete curbing on the driveway.

The forms are also being built and the rebar installed to build the stairs from the sidewalk to the new doors.

Another small section of sidewalk is missing over by the bell tower entry now. The gutter drains had to be reinstalled to the storm sewer at the street. A piece of plywood should keep the mud off your Easter shoes, but be careful.
